A Day in the life of...Head Office

Posted by JancettNurseries on January 11, 2018

In this blog we go behind the scenes at Jancett House and follow a day in the life of our head office.

Our head office in Wallington is home to many different departments, each playing an important role in the smooth running of our childcare services on a daily basis.

Our HR office oversees everything from recruitment and interviewing for current vacancies within our day nurseries, to booking training for our nursery and club staff, plus all payroll related tasks. The office also has a meeting space within it which is used for interviews and meetings with staff.

Our HR Manager is known for her love of the colour pink and her desk (seen below) certainly reflects this!

Our childcare administration team work together and each take on key roles to ensure our nursery families receive the best service possible. Between the team of four, tasks include banking, payments, 30 hour funding processing, registers, filing, waiting lists and responding to all bookings and enquiries for our nurseries both over the telephone, and by post or email.

Our Office / Finance Officer explained how the office is in the midst of adding a new Parent Zone, which will provide parents who visit head office with a comfortable seating area to speak with the team, to complete paperwork or to pay their nursery fees.

An unofficial fifth member of the team also joined (or rather flew in to) Childcare admin recently - 'Bertie the Early Bird', childcare admin's little icon for our Playsafe Holiday Club's Early Bird Rate, below.

Childcare admin are currently receiving guidance on and working towards the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) changes which come into effect in May 2018.

They also shared exclusive news about forthcoming innovations - including a telephone app for our nursery families which will enable them to pay online, plus an exciting rebrand of our entire admin system. Watch this space!

We asked the team for their new year resolutions, and between them, they revealed "healthy eating", "to put on weight", and to "drink more water".

In the Childcare Operations office across the hallway, our Nursery Operations Manager is busy updating the induction checklist for new staff. She is also delighted that we have received new SEN funding which will enable us to allocate staffing and resources for our SEN children within every nursery setting this year. We are grateful to Sutton Council for allowing us to support children with SEN at our nurseries.

Our Football and Multi-skills coach, Coach Nick is running sessions at our nurseries during the week and, from April 2018, our Jazzy Saturday Club will reopen, welcoming children and their parents for Saturday morning fun and learning.

In other news, save the date! Our nursery operations team are already planning for our popular annual Jancett Summer Fair and the date will be Saturday 23rd June 2018.

We should point out that our Operations Manager, seen below, also has a pink desk to lightheartedly rival our HR Manager - including a pink keyboard.

Our business development and marketing team (represented, in artistic fashion, by objects associated with them) are working on the launch of a brand new website for the training arm of the organisation, JACE Training. New websites for both our nurseries and Playsafe clubs will also follow over the coming months.

Marketing are also working towards a very special milestone in our company history: 2019 will mark the 50th anniversary of our Jancett day nurseries. We opened our very first day nursery back in 1969 and cannot wait to celebrate this significant and exciting birthday next year.

The team are currently planning fun content for our social media channels and new topics for our nursery blog. If you're on Twitter, do follow Jancett - we post on there several times daily.

Jazzy, our much loved company mascot is putting dates in his diary to visit our nurseries and is looking forward to joining the children for their Easter activities, our annual summer fair in June and, looking even further ahead, attending the nursery summer graduations. To find out more about Jazzy, visit his website page.

Our Director of Marketing says that her New Year's resolutions are "to support work/life balance for the team, take time to celebrate team successes and in my personal/work life, to take on new challenges in and out of work. I also have a motto ‘live and enjoy each day, plan exciting things to look forward to’.

Our Finance office is responsible for essential tasks including reporting to the finance directors, paying supplier invoices, cash flow, petty cash to staff and keeping all our accounts up to date.

The finance team's New Year Resolutions include healthy eating, more exercise and to 'stress less'. Our Finance Manager has a key resolution for 2018 which is to reduce the amount of paper she uses. Not only in order to help the environment but to reduce the need for so much filing. Both noble and practical!

Three of the team recently completed a Mental Health Awareness Course and report that the course has given them a greater awareness of Mental Health and made them feel positive about 2018.

Exciting personal events to look forward to among the team include our finance manager joining the rock choir, and our finance officer getting married this September.

Our Maintenance Manager spent Tuesday morning visiting one of our nurseries (in the loft) and later met with our policies and procedures director to review the health and safety policy. Our onsite maintenance team are busy across all our settings and our day nursery in Carshalton will be having their kitchen painted this weekend.

Over in our IT department, our IT Manager is revising all of our nurseries paperwork in order to be GDPR compliant. She is also looking at ways to streamline our processes and is redesigning all internal forms and contracts. Everything IT-related is being reviewed to ensure all our systems are fully GDPR compliant before May 2018.

A New Year Resolution she has is a sensible 'not to put yourself last'.

Our Managing Director explained that she is currently strategy planning for the entire company - all four sectors and all settings. She is also working on our 2018/19 budgets.

She shared her inspiring New Year's resolution - 'to live in the now and to focus'.

With the clock striking 6pm, our staff have headed home. Jancett House closes its doors for the day and will reopen tomorrow morning.

On behalf of everyone here at head office, we wish all our nursery families a very Happy New Year and look forward to working with you in 2018.
